...don't you think?

A handful of EtsyRAIN artists took a chance and participated a very VERY last-minute show at Eat Local in Queen Anne. The show featured:

We had a great time getting to know each other a little better…it was just too bad the weather was so horrible that few customers made it into the store :(

Some of us sold some stuff…some of us sold none. Ah well. That’s the way the snow falls ;) You can be sure we’ll do more EtsyRAIN collaborations at Eat Local in 2009!

How am I ever going to make it up QA Hill?? December 20, 2008

I have so many great Tote2Go! Double Shoppers left over from Urban Craft Uprising. I figured I would, so I agreed to do a mini-trunk show at Eat Local this Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008 from 12pm to 4pm. Looking out the window, I’m wondering if it’s  a good idea to try to make it up to upper Queen Anne. The road in front of my house is *really* icy (we don’t have snow plows here in Seattle!) and…well…it is called Queen Anne HILL for a reason.

Hm. Then again I think of all the people who are anywhere East of us that know how to drive in the snow without tire chains (natch) and make it to their destinations just fine.

Am I really that much of a wuss? :P

seattle snow...

seattle snow...this is nothin' compared to the rest of the country, right?! sheesh...I am such a wuss.

That’s it. If I can get out of my driveway and onto the main road, I’m going. I may go the LONG way around, but I’m going! Read all about the event on my new Facebook page: http://moourl.com/Tote2GoTrunkShow1208

Oh…right. Due to being “snowed in” for two days, I updated my Facebook page and am now on Twitter! Friend and Follow me, won’t you?

Things are fine. I’ve just been really busy with crazy Holiday stuff so I’ve neglected this poor blog forever…sorry about that!

The update on my Dad: He’s doing really well. He ended up having to have a pacemaker put in…but all tests pointed toward him needing it, so it’s a good thing. His legs are finally feeling better — well enough to go to the casino for his birthday Dec. 12th (nothing like the promise of a trip to the casino to get that man walking around…haha!). My mom’s taking good care of him as always.

Thanks to anyone who actually took the time to read my blog, send well wishes and words of support. I really appreciate it and truly believe that it helped a lot! Sincere gratitude, everyone :)

I’ll be back soon with some updates on more stuff.
Until then…stay warm!

Yeah. So, that’s what the cardiovascular surgeon said to us when he remembered to tell us about the condition of my father’s three(!) bypasses. Basically, my dad’s heart has created its own bypass by growing a huge vein from the left side of his heart to feed the right side. It’s not the ideal situation, but it’s working for now. They say he’ll be going on (more) medication to regulate his heartbeat and that a 3rd open-heart surgery is our last option after all others have failed.

He also had some laser surgery on the 14″ of blocked vein in his left leg — they got alllllll the way through to within 2mm(!) of breaking through and then…they had to stop. The vascular surgeon said they had to stop because they didn’t want to keep him in there any longer than the 4+ hours he already endured…too risky. Oh, and the last 2mm of calcification is usually very dense and hard to break through so it would take much longer to get through than the rest of it. He seemed just as frustrated as we were in hearing the news.

So now, it’s all about time and more surgeries and living more healthfully. These are the days when I wish I lived closer to my parents. It’s also a wake-up call for me…after all, I have the tendency to have all these health problems myself…yikes.

Thanks for “listening”. Your support and well-wishes have really helped a lot! I promise to post happier topics next time… :)

Choosing Family Over Work… September 4, 2008

My Dad is going in for some “minor” surgery tomorrow (an angioplasty amongst other things). I decided to come down to LA to be with my family even though the procedure is “no big deal” because…well…my family is a big deal to me.

When I found out about the surgery, I’ll be honest. I waffled. I kept thinking about all the work I needed to do…

My Tote2Go! stock is getting low, after many small shows that chipped away at my inventory…leaving me with some cute, but I’d say boring fabric choices. So having a few extra days to prepare for a show this Saturday (Seattle Tilth Harvest Fair, Sept. 6th) would have been awesome.

I’m in the middle of organizing some new happenings at EtsyRAIN — our new membership program, a big show in October even coordinating some stuff for our upcoming EtsyRAIN Zine (name to be announced soon!)…there is SO much to do. (Luckily I have a great leadership team to support me! Extra special thanks to KC!! You are awesome.)

But then…I compared everything I needed to do with the way I would feel if I chose these things over family. What if something happened? I could never forgive myself! Especially after we almost lost him in his second open-heart surgery last year. That was crazy scary.

Here’s hoping tomorrow comes and goes and I’m saying, “Yeah. That was not a big deal. Everything was fine…I probably didn’t have to be here.”

I’d much rather live with that than the alternative.

Bumbershoot + Etsy = LOVE! August 29, 2008

OMG OMG OMG OMG! <— this is what I was saying in my head three days ago when I got confirmation that I was confirmed to show my wares in the Etsy booth at Bumbershoot THIS weekend! Check out the Storque’s article on it here: Etsy in Action: Aug 30 – Sept 5

The first OMG was pure Joy. Like, “OMG! They like me! They really like me!” — that sort of thing.
The second OMG was Disbelief. As in “OMG! Did I read that right? Let me read it again!”
The third OMG was more of a realization of the scope of such an offer. “OMG…a full day at Bumbershoot? The biggest festival of the year??? How many hundreds of people will see my work in ONE day???”

Then…the last OMG was a serious reality check. “What the heck am I going to bring? I’ve been selling my bags and not really sewing much. O…M…G…! I’m in for some serious sleepless nights…”

Then to top it all off, I find out they’re featuring my Comic Book Charm necklaces in the article. OMG. I need to make some necklaces too?? Yikes.

To give you a little idea of what it’s like to be me right now, you need to add this amazing news on top of some really amazing, very real offers to buy my Tote2Go! double shoppers wholesale (which I’m still working on), my father going in for some minor surgery next week (which I’ll be going down to LA for), two Big “green” festivals coming up (Seattle Tilth Harvest Fair, Sept. 6th and GreenEdmonds, Sept. 13th), EtsyRAIN exploding with new members, events and activities…etc etc etc.

Yeah. I’m nuts. Insane. Completely mad. I’ll be the first to admit it.

I wouldn’t have it any other way :)

See you at Bumbershoot on Saturday! (Carrie of glitzconcepts.etsy.com will be there with me…it’s going to be a FUN day!!!)
