Bumbershoot + Etsy = LOVE! August 29, 2008

OMG OMG OMG OMG! <— this is what I was saying in my head three days ago when I got confirmation that I was confirmed to show my wares in the Etsy booth at Bumbershoot THIS weekend! Check out the Storque’s article on it here: Etsy in Action: Aug 30 – Sept 5

The first OMG was pure Joy. Like, “OMG! They like me! They really like me!” — that sort of thing.
The second OMG was Disbelief. As in “OMG! Did I read that right? Let me read it again!”
The third OMG was more of a realization of the scope of such an offer. “OMG…a full day at Bumbershoot? The biggest festival of the year??? How many hundreds of people will see my work in ONE day???”

Then…the last OMG was a serious reality check. “What the heck am I going to bring? I’ve been selling my bags and not really sewing much. O…M…G…! I’m in for some serious sleepless nights…”

Then to top it all off, I find out they’re featuring my Comic Book Charm necklaces in the article. OMG. I need to make some necklaces too?? Yikes.

To give you a little idea of what it’s like to be me right now, you need to add this amazing news on top of some really amazing, very real offers to buy my Tote2Go! double shoppers wholesale (which I’m still working on), my father going in for some minor surgery next week (which I’ll be going down to LA for), two Big “green” festivals coming up (Seattle Tilth Harvest Fair, Sept. 6th and GreenEdmonds, Sept. 13th), EtsyRAIN exploding with new members, events and activities…etc etc etc.

Yeah. I’m nuts. Insane. Completely mad. I’ll be the first to admit it.

I wouldn’t have it any other way :)

See you at Bumbershoot on Saturday! (Carrie of glitzconcepts.etsy.com will be there with me…it’s going to be a FUN day!!!)

EtsyRAIN’s 1st Birthday! August 1, 2008

Filed under: blogging,craft,crafts,etsy,etsyrain,handmade,selling — imakecutestuff.com @ 3:29 am

Last year at this time, I was busy bugging Carrie (glitzconcepts.etsy.com) to post ideas for events, coffee get togethers and meetings for the newly formed EtsyRAIN Meetup. A few weeks (days?) later, Carrie made me an Assistant Organizer so I could quit bugging her and put my many ideas to work…smart gal!

Eventually, Carrie got so super-busy building her business, raising the ever-so-adorable Finn and other Mom-type stuff, she handed over the Organizer role to me…and I’ve been LOVEing every minute of it!

Since the Edmonds show, we’ve had a lot of events that have kept me busy (and away from blogging…so sorry about that!) Such as…

Inter-EtsyRAIN Swap & Shop

Inter-EtsyRAIN Swap & Shop - June 8, 2008

I realized that even though we are oftentimes at the same craft show events, we’re usually so busy selling our own stuff that we never have time to actually buy each other’s work! The answer – The Inter-EtsyRAIN Shop/Swap! Everyone brought some leftover craft supplies, some samples of their own work, displayed it on tables and had a great time talking, shopping and swapping goodies without the interruption of “customers”…a good time was had by all!

Ballard Senior Center Show

Ballard Senior Center Show - June 28, 2008

The Ballard Senior Center/EtsyRAIN Craft Show was fantastic…our second-ever EtsyRAIN produced member’s only show! We had about 25 vendors and the Ballard Senior Center had a BBQ fundraiser. It brought some much needed awareness of the center to the local community and we had a great time too!

Tote2Go! at Mill Creek - July 12 & 13, 2008

Tote2Go! at Mill Creek - July 12 & 13, 2008

A few weeks later, a bunch of EtsyRAIN members had their own booths at the Mill Creek Festival — ArtbyNorm, RozsSaxSeattle, WovenChains and WorldofWhimm were nearby…and ItsMadeAtHome / TomatoTomato were just down the row. With so many familiar faces around, it turned out to be a great show.

Upcoming EtsyRAIN events include collaborative booths at Showcase Tacoma on August 8th & 9th and GreenEdmonds on September 13th as well as a big EtsyRAIN show at St. Edward State Park in Kenmore on October 12th!

There is SO much more to share…but that will have to wait for another day.

For those EtsyRAIN members who are reading this…Happy 1st Birthday to you! After all, YOU are the reason EtsyRAIN is so successful and I appreciate your support and participation in all of our events and our message board. We’re coming up on some great things…be sure to stay informed! :)

Go EtsyRAIN Go!!!

Busy Busy Busy… June 18, 2008

I’ve been running around like mad trying to get all the things on my “to do” list done!

My parents are coming into town on from the 20th through the 26th, so I’m desperately trying to get my very messy apartment in some sort of presentable order. Not an easy task at any time of the year…but I have to give it a try – six days is just long enough notice that faint line of dust on the edge of the cabinet. <sigh>

In addition to all of that, I’m also trying to finish up preparations for EtsyRain’s next self-produced crafts show in Ballard! There are signs to make, postcards to distribute and last-minute advertising to be sent…

24 EtsyRain.com artists will be showing their work for the first time in Ballard!
Come on down, buy some cool stuff and set a spell for some home-style barbecue with
the folks from the little-known local community center – Ballard NWSC

It’s gonna be lots of fun! :)

Puget Sound Indie Arts (PSIA) Art & Craft Show @ ArtWorks in Edmonds, WA
Saturday May 10, 2008 – 9:30am to 4:30pm

Oh Boy! There’s nothing better than a craft show. Well…unless that craft show is handing out FREE “swag” bags. Not just ANY swag bags either…these are totally Handmade Bags Stuffed FULL of Handmade Goodies from Puget Sound artists! The catch? Only the first 50 customers through the door will get one, so you’d better be there when we open at 9:30am!

Can’t make it to the show by 9:30am? Well, you’re in luck! Once an hour, we’ll be giving a “Super Swag Bag” away to a lucky shopper (you must be present to win).

Yep. That sounds like a winning combination to me.
Wanna check it out? What? You’ll *think* about it? Hm…did you see the word FREE up there? Yeah…you want to be there…I saw the swag bags and the stuff that’s in them…You DEFINITELY want to be there! :)

Oh yeah…I totally forgot to officially blog about Urban Craft Uprising this weekend! Silly me.

Anywhoo — it is definitely ON this weekend! There’ll be 120 vendors including me with a half-a-booth full of my newest Tote2Go! designs. (Julie’s Common Object Jewelry will be in the other half!). I’m so honored to be a part of this show — I love everything about the concept and seriously…the quality of the crafts are always top-notch (if I do say so myself…hehe).

Do yourself and your holiday shopping list a favor and BUY HANDMADE this holiday! Supporting independent artists is the wave of the future, didn’t you know? Some of the best in the Pacific Northwest region will be at Urban Craft Uprising — December 1st and 2nd, 2007 at the Seattle Center Exhibition Center.

Click the logo below to go directly to the Urban Craft Uprising site for all the info as well as directions to the venue!

Oh…one more thing — I’ll have a bunch of new totes / purses as well as a huge new collection of my super-new double-grocery totes all made out of repurposed, recycled and remnant fabrics! Leave a comment here (make sure I have a way to contact you) and I’ll email you a coupon for 20% off your purchase of Tote2Go! valid at UCU only! Nice, right? :) See you there!

My My How Time Flies… November 27, 2007

Geez. I look up and next thing I know, Urban Craft Uprising is THIS weekend! Augh!!!! Once again, I am scrambling and staying up waaaay too late to try to make tons of inventory to take to the show. <sigh> When will I ever learn how to get this stuff done earlier?? Hmph. I have to say though, this pressure is making some diamonds out of my fabric stash! I already have 10 sets of double Tote2Go! grocery bags and a *ginormous* red and green floral tote that took me all afternoon to make! It ended up a lot bigger than I had originally planned, but it really turned out great! The last thing I finished tonight was a super-long handled purse/tote2go — it’s totally cute…black with mustard/brown/green stripes on it and pockets all over the place. I wouldn’t be too sad if that one didn’t sell this weekend…hehe.

The weather is a little crappy right now (Seattle rain!), so I can’t take any decent pictures of the new stuff just yet…but I did recently list these totes in my Etsy shop:

blue floral tote2go!         bright stripe tote2go!       Blue Geo Squares tote2go!

Instead of sewing, I made these… October 5, 2007

So, I buy all that fabric, and what do I do?? I go to my jewelry studio (well, I was teaching a class…) and make some cute new comic book charms to post to my Etsy store! Of course! I couldn’t just sit there and SEW up all that fabric! I have to distract myself and make small things that make me happy…

BlaMMo! WhAmmO! kaPOW!

Funny thing is, I designed these waaaay back in 1995…and NO one understood them. Now, I put them on Etsy and I sell a bunch of ’em! I love when an idea works (no matter how long it takes!) But really — I gotta say, they make me smile…and isn’t that what life is all about? Well…that and getting your work done?

Oh boy. Off to the sewing machine! zzzzZZZOOOOmmMMM!!!
